Responsibilities of Odyssey Academy
Odyssey will be pleased to….
- Provide a complete year's curriculum in five (elementary-middle school) or six (high school) academic subjects, or part-time program as requested. (Additional elective subjects are available for students who have shown ability to handle an above average workload.)
- Provide documents with specific directions to achieve successful implementation of Odyssey’s curriculum.
- Provide access to inventory for sale of required reference books, answer keys, audio tapes, video tapes, kindergarten kits,
and first grade kits.
- Provide access to online diagnostic testing upon enrollment with a customized educational plan to meet the specific needs of
my student(s).
- Provide achievement testing as required each school year to evaluate student progress with national norms. (Fee applies.) If deficiencies are noted, a remedial program will be required to correct deficiencies.
- Request the student’s records from the previous school.
- Maintain of all student records. (Faithful daily record keeping and quarterly reporting are necessary
for all students to stay enrolled in the Academy.)
- Provide all forms and necessary materials for parents to maintain proper control in motivating individualized
learning.
- Prepare Academic Plans for all high school students to project graduation from high school. (Students will not be allowed to graduate early—before 17 years and 9 months of age—unless the college preparatory course of study is completed.)
- Provide Odyssey’s high school identification number and registration forms for taking college entrance exams.
- Grant a diploma of graduation upon completion of all requirements.
- Provide daily mentoring through the built-in message center in Switched-On for any academic, procedural, or record-keeping questions.
- Provide telephone access to the student’s teacher (limited-additional time can be purchased.)
- Provide an umbrella of protection as a recognized independent study program through The National
Association of Private Schools. Odyssey Academy recommends that each family join the Home School Legal
Defense Association—call 540-338-5600 and keep abreast of Home Schooling Requirements in their
state.
- Prepare periodic school newsletters to keep parents informed of issues, changes, and tips for success.
Responsibilities of the Home School Parent
- If using Switched-On Schoolhouse, parent will personally perform installation.
- Maintain security of the parent’s password. (Failure to keep the password secure could result in student completing schoolwork again, or possible withdrawal.)
- Provide a quiet place for the student to study.
- Provide a regular schedule for schoolwork completion.
- Monitor the student as they are completing their schoolwork, including all quizzes and tests.
- Be available as the first “line of defense” to answer easy academic questions.
- Regularly check personal e-mail account to maintain e-mail communication between the parent and administration office.
- Make sure the student is synchronizing twice a day, if using SOS Sync.
- Regularly log in to Parent DL to monitor the student's progress.
- Notify the Administration Office anytime the computer locks-up and requires a restart, or the computer is completely down and the student cannot work.
- Perform or pay a professional to keep the computer happy and healthy.
- If using paper-based curriculum, complete and mail quarterly reports on time.
