We believe that any child born after 1980 is a Digital Native. Today's students and young workers are part of a cohort called "Digital Natives." Raised on video games, e-mail, the Web and instant messaging, Digital Natives have developed cognitive thinking patterns that differ from previous generations. As a result, the challenge facing educational designers is to recognize these cognitive differences and to develop learning offerings that are appropriate to their cognitive learning patterns.
Digital Natives perceive technology as their friend and rely on it to study, work, play, relax and communicate. Natives dominate the seats in classrooms all over the country and are an increasing presence in the entry-level workplace.
The administrative team of Odyssey Academy has embraced education technology because we believe that's what our students expect. Technology is here to stay and must be harnessed to advance educational opportunities to as many children as possible around the world.
We believe the innovation we provide through our online distance learning program is the best in the Christian education market today. There are thousands of videos embedded, which allow us to deliver visually-enhanced content with auditory instruction. Our students are immersed in their subjects through a dynamic mix of text and multimedia presentations. You may ask, “Besides, up-to-date content, how does this advanced electronic curriculum compare to a textbook-based curriculum?” Unlike a textbook-based curriculum, which is static, our curriculum delivery comes alive with animation and sound, making the student’s learning a rich and rewarding experience. This is truly innovative education technology.
Video clips have been integrated to enrich and reinforce concepts presented in the lessons. These clips are presented in such a way to help students better grasp what they are reading and thus encoure understanding and long term retention of learned material. Engaging videos with animated lesson illustrations are included to enhance learning, increasing interest and thus ensure content mastery.
Slide Shows allow our students to grasp math or science concepts in a deeper way. Should they not get it the first time, they can listen to it again and again, if necessary, until they master the concept thoroughly.
Master teachers or tiny tutors are available to expand further auditory instruction beyond what is written in the text.
