Online Homeschooling - Odyssey Academy

Trends in Education...

n 2007, roughly 1 million students were enrolled in online courses -- an increase 22 times greater than in 2000 but still representing only about 1 percent of all education courses nationally. By using a substitution curve to mathematically predict the pace of adoption, however, Christensen and Horn suggest that in about six years 10 percent of all courses will be computer-based, and by 2019 about 50 percent of courses will be delivered online.

The Award-Winning LIFEPAC Gold Curriculum

Girl completing LIFEPACFlexible, complete, award winning—these are just some of the words used to describe our paper-based LIFEPAC curriculum available in the core subjects for students in grades 1-8. LIFEPAC stands alone in its teacher-friendly layout and instructional flow and is a complete, 12-year Christian curriculum designed to teach five core subjects (Bible, Language Arts, Math, History & Geography, and Science), plus an array of secondary electives. Composed of consumable textbook/workbook combinations that conveniently combine subject text, exercises, projects, review, and tests, this worktext format is designed for home school parents who want the advantage of extensive, pre-developed curricula with integrated lesson plans.

Mastery Learning

LIFEPAC's full-color, worktext curriculum is based on the principle of mastery learning, in which students truly master the context and skills of one unit before progressing to the next. Different students learn at different speeds, so mastery learning ensures success by allowing each student to move at his or her own speed.

Critical Thinking Skills

Many specific LIFEPAC curriculum activities and questions require students to go beyond simple objective recall, asking them to instead, think analytically and draw conclusions that require a conceptual understanding of the material. More than just recalling facts, your student will grasp concepts through analytical and evaluative thinking skills.

Additional LIFEPAC Key Features

  • Individualized — Tailor a course of study to meet your student's individual need
  • Integrated Biblical concepts and principle reinforcement
  • Minimal lesson planning
  • Flexible and customizable
  • Substantial savings over traditional hardbound texts
  • Balance independent study with parent interaction
  • Complete spiral-bound Teacher's Guides for lesson planning and charting student progress.

Horizons

For grades Pre-6, the Horizons curriculum is fun-filled and comprehensive with engaging workbooks and hands-on lessons. Creative, colorful lessons establish students in grades K-6 in the fundamentals of math, phonics, reading, spelling, and vocabulary. The Horizons Math and Language Arts courses use spiral learning—quick concept introduction, frequent review, and reinforcement. Uniquely different from LIFEPAC Math, Horizons Math is a quick-paced, teacher-directed format which uses manipulatives and accelerated learning to build mathematical understanding. The Horizons curriculum has the following courses: Phonics & Reading (K-2), Spelling & Vocabulary (1-2), and Math (K-6).
