Using M.L.A. - Modern Language Association - to Cite Sources
It extremely important that you learn how to give proper credit to sources you've used when writing your research papers. A source is a place where you found information that is new to you. If you found it in an encyclopedia, a book, an article, or on the Internet, or any other place, that information is not your own; it belongs to someone else.
Should you choose to use this new information without citing where you obtained it, you will have committed plagiarism. Plagiarism is stealing. Odyssey Academy takes a strong stand against plagiarism because we have pledged to hold our students to the highest ethical standard.
The means you cite your sources must be in a common format. Odyssey Academy has chosen to require the M.L.A. format for all students working in 7th grade or above. We believe this format to be the most common. Learning it well will place you ahead of many of your peers as you enter higher institutions of learning.
